Nature truly bestowed all her gifts with a smile for the opening of Killarney House Gardens on Sunday April 4th and music played no small a role in making this a truly memorable day. From the strong, emotive tones of the Golf Society Choir, to the almost hauntingly rich voice of harpist and soprano Marina Cassidy. From the delightful mix of traditional airs and songs of the Killarney School of Music musicians and singers to my own singing of a diverse set of songs which I chose very carefully to suit the day.
The backdrop of the marquee created the effect of a stage but the absence of an elevated platform allowed for a very intimate performance. As a performer on the day myself, I really felt a huge connection with my audience. There was an amazing energy in the crowd and a real feeling that everyone who was there wanted to soak up every second of the day. As musicians we celebrated not only being Irish, but being proud to sing at such an historic event for the town.
It is such a beautiful thing to see and hear local musicians and singers coming together for the opening of what promises to be a place where we can all go to be inspired. Inspiration plays a huge role in the lives of those of us who are involved in the Arts and there is no shortage of it in Killarney. People from all over the world come here to experience what we are so lucky to have on our doorstep everyday.
So whether you are a painter or a singer; a poet or a dancer; a song writer or an actor; a walk through Killarney House Gardens can open the mind, heart and soul to all that the beauty of nature can offer.
